The Three Rules of Making The Most of Your PLR Purchases
Question for you. Do you own pre-written content or PLR? I’m going to assume the answer is yes. Chances are you own content bundles from a variety of different providers including Susie and Geoff O’Dea from right here at MasterPLR.
Maybe you’ve bought from many different places and that’s a good thing – provided you buy from quality sources like Master PLR. However, it’s only a good investment for your business if you actually use it. Let’s take a minute to look at three important rules you should know about to make sure you make the most of it.
In business, most things boil down to ROI – Return On Investment. You want to make more than you spend. Ideally a lot more…by following these simple three rules – and then learning how to break them on occasion- you can be sure you’re making the most of all your PLR purchases.
Rule Number 1 – Use It!
Yes, it sounds simple, but it’s the most important rule of them all and one we are all breaking from time to time.
Be honest. Do you have some content that you’ve bought and haven’t used yet? I’m not talking about something you’ve bought a few days or weeks ago with a plan for implementation. I’m talking about the stuff that’s been there for months. Or the pack you snagged because there was a coupon or deal, thinking you’d figure out how to use it.
Set aside some time this week and do an inventory of all the pre-written content you own. If you’ve been purchasing PLR for more than a year, chances are there are some packs you’ve forgotten about. Figure out what you have and then come up with a plan to use it.
Remember, the best pre-written content doesn’t do anything for you until you get it out there.
Rule Number 2 – Tweak It
Can you use PLR “out of the box” as is? Technically yes, but if you want to make sure you get the most out of the pre-written content you’ve purchased, you are going to want to tweak it.
The articles, short reports, and ebooks are well-written (assuming you purchase from a high-quality PLR provider like Master PLR) and perfectly fine as is. They are a bit generic though but that’s the nature of pre-written content and one of its biggest benefits. It gives you plenty of opportunities to quickly tweak it and add your own twist.
Why would you want to? Great question! Because you can give it a little personality, inject your own voice, and my personal favorite -using specific terms and examples for your particular target audience.
Let’s say you buy some organic gardening PLR and your niche is patio container gardening. You can take the content and whenever it references a garden bed, you change it to a container. If you bought some fitness PLR and your niche is new moms, you use examples of working in time exercise while the baby is sleeping, or tips for working out with your baby. You get the idea.
This editing or tweaking doesn’t have to take long and it isn’t hard. After all, you’re buying PLR to save time and effort. Spend a minute or two to change a few sentences around to speak more directly to your audience and you’re good to go.
Give it a try and see if you don’t start to get more engagement, more comments, more subscribers, and most importantly more customers when you start to tweak your content to make it an even more effective marketing tool.
Rule Number 3 – Reuse It As Often As Possible
Now let’s talk about how to get the most bang for your buck. It’s using PLR multiple times.
It always surprises me how many people don’t realize that you can use each piece of PLR you buy more than once on your website and in your content funnels.
Let’s say you start with a PLR article and use it to quickly create a new blog post. Awesome. You’re following rule number two and are tweaking it. You hit publish. Now what? You can take that same article and use it in a new lead magnet. Or in your next newsletter. You can even save time writing your next eBook or course by using it as the starting point for your next chapter.
And how about this? You’re already familiar with the content of the article. Record a quick video where you talk about the concepts in the content, weaving in your own examples along the way. You now have another piece of content that you can upload to YouTube and Facebook. Then go back and embed the video into the blog post to enrich the user experience and add even more value to your site.
Don’t stop there. You can also create new blog posts using the same PLR article as a starting point. Let’s say the original article included three main points. Use each of those as the starting point for three more blog posts (those can be short) where you go a little deeper and add a couple of extra tips and/or examples. You’ll have three new pieces of content that you can publish over the coming days and weeks.
Give it a try and see how easy it is to step up your content marketing when you start to reuse your PLR.
Last but not least, I encourage you to break the rules from time to times. This is your business. We’re here to help you with content creation and research, but at the end of the day what you do with your PLR is your call. And of course this goes for anything you do or don’t do as you grow your business.
I invite you to check out Piggy Makes Bank, the pre-written content site I run with my business partner Tracy.

Great advice! I have only just started reusing my PLR. I always used it as it was given. If it was an article or a report, that’s what I used it for. Once I used it that was it. Now I use the same piece over and over again in different applications. It actually makes sense once you start doing it.
Susie O'Dea says
Hi Helen,
It certainly does make sense once you start. Thank you for sharing!
Ellie says
Hi Geoff and Susie, I find I don’t need to tweak your content as it suits my audience as it is. How would I tweak it if it’s already fine?
Susie O'Dea says
Hi Ellie,
Firstly thank you for the lovely comment! Although you may feel our content suits your audience already, Tracy and Susanne are saying that you can add your own personality or voice to the content.
For example, you may want to be more light-hearted, or more serious. You can write or change a sentence to add more gusto or humor! It depends on your personality.
Another way is through telling a story. We actually have a free resource on how to customize your content with stories here: Free Resource.
I hope that helps, but if you have any more questions, please just ask!

I need to start an inventory. I have so many PLR packs that I can never find what I want when I need it. 😛
Susie O'Dea says
Good for you Tanya! It certainly makes life easier when you make a list of what you have purchased, and also what you have used out of that package.
I like to use an excel sheet. I even make ‘notes’ of what I used a piece of content for.
For example, if I use an article as a blog post, I make a ‘note’ in excel that I used it that way. (I’ll even add my link to the article.) By doing this I can still use the article again, as Tracy and Susanne mentioned in rule number three. I can ‘repurpose’ the article into an email or a slide, or whatever else I may need.
I also have everything neatly filed in folders.
For example: Alternative Health, Mental Health, Heart Health, Personal Development, Emotional Health, Mindfulness etc.
I hope that helps you get started with your own inventory plan!
